About us
We created Is It For Dogs because we have experienced first-hand how difficult it can be to work out whether something is safe for your dog.
We have had a dog with many allergies, and we repeatedly found ourselves searching different websites, trying to work out whether a food, ingredient, plant or other item was safe. One page said it was fine. The next said it was poison.
There was no single, simple place where we could ask, "Is this safe for my dog?" and get a clear answer based on reliable information.
That is why we created Is It For Dogs.
Our mission
To make it easier for dog owners to find clear, factual and trustworthy safety information about the things their dogs encounter every day.
How we answer
- Every answer lives in a reviewed library, tied to recognised sources such as ASPCA Animal Poison Control and PetMD, with the date it was last reviewed.
- Search and photo identification help us understand your question. They never decide the safety answer.
- If we don't have a verified answer for something, we tell you that instead of guessing.
- Where sources disagree, veterinary and toxicology authorities come first, then recognised veterinary publications.
An information tool, not a vet
Is It For Dogs helps you make a decision quickly, but it does not replace veterinary care. If your dog may have eaten something poisonous, or is showing symptoms, contact your vet or an emergency veterinary service immediately.
